Desert in Óasis

Finding a beautiful desert of immense white dunes in Peru is a surprise, even more so when you discover that there is a natural emerald oasis in the midst of that immensity. A few years ago, in Huacachina there were two oases, but one of them has practically disappeared, due to the drought of the desert.

The Huacachina oasis has a size of 100 meters long by 60 meters wide and is a natural oasis, an emerald green lagoon. The waters of the oasis arose from the outcropping of underground currents and over the years, palm trees and eucalyptus trees have surrounded their surroundings, further embellishing this desert landscape.

Spa and healing therapies
The oasis of Huacachina and the healing properties of its mud, rich in sulphurous and saline substances, made Huacachina one of the most exclusive spas in Peru, back in 1940.

Legend of Huacachina
Huacca (cry) and Chinese (woman) written in Quechua are the words that have given name to Huacachina. "The woman who cries" or "The one who makes you cry" is what Huacachina means and everything comes from a legend ....

Centuries ago there was an Inca princess who was walking through the desert with her mirror, watching her beautiful reflection and singing melodies to an impossible love. The princess, with emerald eyes and black hair, was looking in the mirror when she saw a man reflected behind her. When he was frightened, he dropped the mirror and it broke into small pieces of glass that became the Huacachina lagoon.

Some variants of the legend continue to tell the story ...

The princess stayed in the Oasis, becoming the siren of the Oasis of Huacachina who, even today, when it is full moon and midnight, appears to sing her sad love melodies.

Some inhabitants of Huacachina advise tourists not to bathe in the Oasis, because as the legend tells ... every year the siren takes someone under its waters.

In the desert of Huacachina you will find the north dune of the lagoon, one of the natural scenarios of greater height in the world for the practice of sandboarding; do not hesitate to rent a buggie and launch them with a surf, an exciting experience.
I recommend eating at the Hostal Huacachina Curasi's restaurant, where buggies and sandboards are also rented.
