It is also home to La Sebastiana, the former and famous home of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, now a museum with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. In 2003 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the legislative capital of the country.
Viña del Mar is famous for its beautiful beaches, sophisticated architecture, and colorful gardens scattered throughout. It is one of the most visited bathing beaches in Chile. The Francisco Fonck Museum of Archaeology and History houses Moai sculptures in stone from Easter Island and miniature heads.
